Track Premiere: Andrew Weiss & Friends “Six Ways To Sunday”

Long Island native Andrew Weiss approached the Covid lockdown with an album, ‘The Golden Age of Love & Chemistry‘,  all ready to go and found in this a sense of dread.   Getting into a recording studio was obviously going to be difficult in the upcoming months – which led to the (admittedly not unique) solution of filling time by recording at home.  The outcome of this activity – with friends Phil Anthony, Jesse Kessler, and Jake Albi adding their contributions from their own home studios – was the ‘Lookout Mountain‘ EP, from which today’s premiere is taken.

Following the folding of his Uni’ band High Fascination Andrew Weiss was drawn to a new project – a quest to offer a fresh take on the sound of early 1970s Laurel Canyon folk rock, blended with the sound of late 70s power pop. From this Andrew Weiss and Friends was born with the band’s debut album ‘The Honeymoon Suite‘ being released in late 2018.    This directly influenced yet more music produced whilst ‘Lookout Mountain‘ was being mastered.  In July Weiss was inspired by the shockwaves calling for social reform and he notes that “around the time Epix released their Laurel Canyon documentary. It was a great reminder that all of these great songs that I love from that era really captured the spirit and feeling of the time.”  This inspiration led to  the soon to be released double-A Side single “Before the World Broke” and “The Other Side of the Rock.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
