Track Premiere: Graber Gryass “River Vow”

Having established their Bluegrass credentials on their debut album ‘Late Bloom‘, Graber Gryass return on May 21st with their new release ‘Spaceman’s Wonderbox.’  It takes the band in a wider direction capturing sounds beyond that Bluegrass core.  “Spaceman” is the band’s name for singer and major songwriter Michael Graber, and he explained about the intention of the new album “We planted ourselves within bluegrass tradition with our first record, with the intention of branching out and pushing boundaries on our second.”  Adding that ‘Spaceman’s Wonderbox‘ is a record that is “like a radio that’s been left on a volunteer station you hear really late one Saturday night—that’s the concept.”

The influences come from diverse directions – ’60’s folk rock and psychedelia, 70’s art rock, early jazz and much more.  To complement this blend of influences there’s also a wider choice of instrumentation including – harmonium, 12-string and gypsy-jazz guitar, bouzouki, dulcimer, and harmonica.  Yet, still at the heart of it all is a Bluegrass jam band, making a wild sound.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
