Track Premiere: Great Peacock “All I Ever Do”

I could be your lover, I could be a friend / We could find a place no one else has ever been” sings Andrew Nelson on this, the first single from Great Peacock’s new album ‘Forever Worse Better‘ which is out on October 9th.  It’s a song about searching for certainties – and finding them hard to get hold of.  It bursts with colour, expanding roots-rock in the direction of psychedelia.  Great Peacock found their sound when the trio of Andrew Nelson, guitarist/harmony vocalist Blount Floyd, and bass player Frank Keith IV  traded in their acoustics for electrics before their last album ‘Gran Pavo Real‘, and set out to build on the foundations of a Southern rock sound taken their guide from greats such as Tom Petty.  And they succeeded.

Andrew Nelson found inspiration for the new album from crisscrossing the South Eastern states in a delivery truck.  It led to some lonely times and thoughts about acceptance in romance, business, and music .  As he explains: “The first half of the album is about feeling empty and looking to fill that void with romance.  It’s about a girl, and I didn’t wind up getting that girl. The second half — and the album as a whole, really — is about learning to love and accept yourself. Those themes tie in with this being the band’s third album. We’re struggling to find success, and I want people to know we’re struggling, just like they are. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, though, and you can work hard to get to it.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
