Track Premiere: Humbletown “Drink to the Desert”

Humbletown is a folk/bluegrass duo from Sioux Falls South Dakota featuring Morgan Carnes on clawhammer banjo and Dylan Lewis on flatpick guitar and mandolin.  They both sing a bit too, as you’ll hear soon.  In fact their vocals blend just so perfectly, and their new album ‘The Path I Chose to Walk‘ is also just perfection.  Astonishingly this is their debut recording, but Humbletown has been around for a while – long enough suffice it to say to have won the 2018 South Dakota Folk Off.  For ‘The Path I Chose to Walk‘ they’ve recorded as a full band with the support of Dalton Coffey on Dobro, mandolin, and bass, Eddie Ferris on bass and some hauntingly achy fiddle from Tom Schaeffe.  We’re a bit keen on Humbletown, and we don’t really care who knows that.

Humbletown told Americana UK that “‘Drink to the Desert’ is a song that was inspired by a visit to Joshua Tree, California. There is a quiet, dusty, enticing magic to this area and it’s exciting to imagine what it would be like to live in such a place. This song is about imagining the wonder of living in a place but facing the challenges that such a life might bring to you. Sometimes it is better to visit and appreciate the enchantment of a place rather than living the reality.”

If you’re ready for bluegrass with a touch of Appalachian folk then you are ready to hit play and make your day.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
