Track Premiere: The Pairs “Yellow Lines”

Not, in fact, a pair of pairs, The Pairs are twin sisters Noelle and Renee Coughlin, long-time friend Hillary Watson, and former-punk percussionist Steve Plimmer.   This London (Ontario) based band brings together soaring harmonies with melodic observations on life, with the aim of celebrating through music every moment of that complexity which is the human experience.

Today’s song is a perfect example of that, with The Pairs delivering a glistening example of modern folk with a theme that is very much taken fromlife.   The Pairs told Americana UK about their new song ‘Yellow Lines‘, saying that it was “Written at the end of a tour, ‘Yellow Lines’ is the story of a tempestuous love affair with the road. It speaks to the challenge of busyness and the pull towards adventure, and in turn, the hold that home and the people we care about have on us while we are away. When faced with the discomforts that sometimes come when choosing an unconventional life path, you get to decide if the hardship is worth the joy. It’s a mixed emotion kind of song. A juxtaposition. From a deep desire to travel, live, and experience, to early mornings and late nights, long car rides, and short-fuses. Yellow Lines poses a tipping point and realization of how necessary it is to manage your own well-being in the beautiful mess of following your dreams.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
