There is a town in North Ontario where you’ll hear perpetual motion with claw hammer banjo accompaniment as Hannah Shira Naiman walks beside ‘The Grouse’.   There is an endless debate about what defines Americana music. There is no doubt here. Fiddle, accordion, and banjo with brass counterpoint in a loping time signature that hints at both Appalachia and Ireland, this is traditional music in the best sense.  Canadian singer- songwriter and square dance caller Naiman looks to the titular bird as a metaphor for an endless search for a sense of home. The video finds the singer performing lakeside and wandering through town, blue case in hand. Directed by Tim O’Reilly, the cinematography completely catches the vibe of the music.

‘The Grouse’ is the first single from Naiman’s third full-length album, ‘The Wheel’s Won’t Go’, due in stores and on streaming services on October 7th, 2022.
