Video Premiere: Becky Kapell “Is Your Love Gone?”

When Becky Kapell’s father made a passing comment, it sparked in her imagination a tale of love slipping away and all of the vulnerability, uncertainty and jealousy that those fading feelings bring.  His words, “I found my ring in my drawer but it doesn’t fit me anymore,” inspired the opening lines of Kapell’s new single, in which the ring symbolises the traumatic end of a relationship.  Kapell’s clear voice and captivating vocal melody, alongside Paul Bergen’s distinctive guitar, ensure that ‘Is Your Love Gone?’ is a timeless country ballad that feels at once fresh yet familiar, like an old favourite made new.

We are pleased to premiere the visual, which was created by film-maker Ilia Stockert.  Kapell shared with AUK the story behind the video: “After writing and recording this song I immediately thought it would be a lovely soundtrack for a video, and I knew Ilia Stockert was just the person to make it. I gave her free reign to interpret the song however she wanted to. Besides the scenes I appear in, I had no idea what she had come up with until I saw the completed video. She was somehow able to make real what was in my mind’s eye and I am drawn in more each time I watch it.”

The single will be released on the next Bandcamp Friday when artists will receive 100% of sales.  Then we can look forward to Kapell’s forthcoming album, ‘In It to Win It’, which is due for release on 1st October.
