Video Premiere: Eli Gardiner “The Right and The Wrong”

We are very pleased to premiere the new video from Eli Gardiner.  ‘The Right and The Wrong’ is the first single from Gardiner’s upcoming album, due out on 25th September.  It showcases excellent guitar work, complementing Gardiner’s fine vocal, which is full of character and soul.  The laid-back rhythm and melody contrast with the emotional resonance and empathy of lyrics, such as:  “I was lost so long in my head // When you lose this much // You wonder if you’re dead,” and, “Praying for the rain // Praying for the lost  // and the broken and the pain.”

This song focuses on what it’s like for artists who are struggling to be seen and heard.  Gardiner says: “I was frustrated with people who would talk at shows, when I would be playing and when I was trying to listen to other songwriters.  This song is about coming to terms with that, letting the music go where it will and believing in the power of Art and Song.”  The rest of the new album, ‘The Fire and The Medicine’, promises to be a blend of the personal and the political.  From a musical family and having written songs since he was in school, Gardiner has poured all his experience into his fifth full-length record.

The Michigan-born songwriter is now based in Minneapolis, where he has worked with some fantastic players on the new record, including award-winning Dan Schwartz on various instruments and Greg Schutte (Ryan Bingham, Mickey Hart)  on drums and on recording, mixing and production duties.  Nick Salisbury (Ryan Bingham, Brian Fallon, Jack Klatt) also played bass guitar.

Listen out for ‘The Fire and The Medicine’ in the autumn.  In the meantime, check out this first single.
