Video Premiere: Emily White “Love the Good”

Check out the new video from Chicago singer-songwriter Emily White.  ‘Love the Good’ is based around the jazz-trained guitarist’s bright strum, over which White’s voice is clear, pure and effortless.  White’s songcraft is excellent and her gifted group of collaborators, including Missy Raines – a GRAMMY-nominee and 10 time IBMA Bass Player of the Year, give the song an extra energy.  As the song builds, Raines’ bass adds warmth and Megan McCormick’s  (Jenny Lewis, Allison Russell) electric guitar provides a lovely melodic layer.  With a shimmering melody and positive message, ‘Love the Good’ is the sound of hope.

The video, featuring Jack Theiling & Isabella Bradley, was created by Fruitful Gopher Productions and captures well the feel and sentiment of the song.  White explains: “This video was made on the beach where I got married, which is about a half mile from my house.  I wanted to make something sweet and beautiful about savoring the good moments, and I think Jack & Isabella did a great job conveying the golden glow of late summer beach days and evenings.”

The single is taken from the new album, ‘Songs You Didn’t Know I Wrote About You’, which is out now.  It’s White’s first album release in nine years and was actually written some time ago but motherhood and the pandemic put the planned release on hold.  Despite the wait, these songs of love and loss remain relevant.  White says: “It’s funny that this album seems so relevant now because all these songs were so tied to specific people and moments from my past.  Each one is about a different person, and probably none of them know I wrote about them.”  The album has been well-received, reaching number 14 on the US folk radio charts.  White is a talented player and a graduate of the Berklee College of Music.  She’s an equally gifted songwriter and this is a collection well-worth checking out, starting with this delightful single.  Enjoy.
