Video Premiere: George is Lord “If I Needed Someone”

We are pleased to premiere the first single from the forthcoming George Harrison tribute album ‘My Sweet George’ from George Is Lord.  The new album, due out on 1st April 2022, will feature a selection of Harrison favourites from his solo career and Beatles back-catalogue.  George Is Lord began when Anna Pomerantz decided to take her life in a new musical direction and left her job as an interior designer to the stars.  She asked her old friend Lindsay Glover to teach her the drums.  As part of the learning process, they began playing songs together and Pomerantz developed a newfound love for the music of George Harrison.  Sam Blasucci from the LA folk duo Mapache was invited to join on guitar and George Is Lord was born. Dean Wareham (Luna, Galaxie 500) also guests on the album to round out the sound.

Pomerantz explains how the band started: “One of the first songs we learned was ‘Something’. I’ve actually spent most of my life hating the Beatles, but hearing them again for the first time through the drums, made me fall completely in love, especially with George and Ringo.  I began teaching Lindsay the guitar and we started playing together. In our lessons, Lindsay had taught me how to sing while playing the drums to keep my place in songs. I didn’t think I was going to be a singer in a band, it just happened.”

Visually and sonically, this interpretation is a faithful throwback to music from decades past.  While inhabiting the song, the band capture the spirit of the original and show respect to their inspiration.  It’s delightfully upbeat and and Pomerantz delivers a pure, engaging vocal, making the most of the gorgeous melody.  Enjoy.
