Video Premiere: Graham Brown Band “Haunted”

Here’s the atmospheric new single from Vancouver’s Graham Brown Band.  Featuring a driving rhythm and strong bass line, the song pulls you in and then keeps your attention thanks to an engaging, ranging vocal melody.  A highlight is the excellent clean tone of Brown’s tuneful harmonica solos.  The accompanying visual was filmed in a dilapidated barn, which seems fitting for the song’s mood and texture.  Sunlight streams into the barn, illuminating the band, but gives way to darkness by the end of the song.

Brown explains: “‘Haunted’ was inspired by someone I know who fell in love with a woman he already had a friendship with. He couldn’t tell her how he felt, but it was obvious and it left me asking, how could she not know? So, the verses are speaking to both of them about the missed opportunity of this love and how it haunts him. When making the video, the old barn became a reflection of how people’s lives and hearts experience wear and tear, but the light that shines through the broken windows and slats still offers a ray of hope.”

‘Haunted’ is taken from the band’s brand new album, due out on 9th July.  ‘Spirit and Soul’ is a collection of songs with a genuine live feel, which is no surprise as the album was recorded in just one day at Edmontone Studios in Edmonton, Albert, while they waited to perform a gig in town that night.  Despite being written pre-pandemic, with no idea of what was about to happen to the world, the songs resonate well with where we are now.  Brown describes the themes and issues covered on the new album: “I guess a lot of these songs are about a search for truth.  It may be dark and inconvenient at times, but it’s all part of learning from the past without becoming stuck there. We all have to keep moving forward.”  Check out the single ‘Haunted’ and then look out for the new album – it promises to be an upbeat, celebratory collection to prepare you for the return of live music.
