Video Premiere: Hanneke Cassel “Evacuation Day”

Simply delightful.  The new single from Hanneke Cassel and her gifted band of collaborators is typically exuberant and totally absorbing, both to watch and listen to.  Traditional Scottish sounds are infused with Americana influences, a blend of old and new, to create something truly timeless.  ‘Evacuation Day’ will make you want to move, to tap your feet, to get up and dance.  Keith Murphy’s guitar delivers the song’s rhythm and heart; along with Tristan Clarridge’s warm, sonorous cello, it is a constant throughout that allows the other instruments to shine.  Alongside Cassel, Jenna Moynihan, an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music, plays 5-string fiddle and the pair display incredible musicianship.  There’s a purity and sweetness to their melody that captivates.

The accompanying video, created by Dylan Ladds, is joyous, capturing the infectious energy of Cassel and the band.  As a viewer, you can easily imagine being in The Burren in Somerville, joining the band and their friends in enthusiastic dance.

‘Evacuation Day’ is taken from the forthcoming Hanneke Cassel album ‘Infinite Brightness’, which is due for release on 14th April 2023.  You can pre-order the digital album here or get a physical copy here.  This is uplifting music full of explosive joy.  Check it out.
