Video Premiere: Steve Hartsoe “Your Time Now”

The latest single from Steve Hartsoe is all about those who dare to follow their dreams.  It’s taken from his new album ‘King of Small Talk’, which is his sixth release, following a series of EPs and full albums, both solo and with his indie-rock band London Down. ‘Your Time Now’ is upbeat and features Hartsoe’s catchy vocal melody over a rhythmic strum.  The Raleigh, North Carolina singer-songwriter also demonstrates his talent on the guitar with some excellent slide-work and the end result is a likeable roots-rocker.

Hartsoe explains the inspiration behind the song: “The song was inspired by my wife, Shannon.  Despite years of varying health challenges, she held down freelance writing jobs while also raising a family. After being screwed over at a job she loved, she was inspired to make a change and totally reinvented herself. Today she’s working at a top, global company, redeeming the time, as they say.”

The accompanying video was directed by Alvin Sloan and features Amanda Frederick as a disillusioned office worker, who aspires to musical stardom.  We see her distracted in a business meeting, playing the guitar instead of listening to her insufferable boss.  Eventually she decides that enough is enough and embarks on a new life as a musician.  Footage of her story is interspersed with Hartsoe performing the song.  He continues: “Alvin took me to a restaurant that was abandoned years ago. It was 85 degrees, and no AC or ventilation. We stopped filming after each verse so I could drink water, wipe off the sweat and avoid passing out.  As a songwriter, it’s important to have inspirational and supportive people around you. My wife is a constant source of encouragement, and Alvin and Amanda really poured themselves into the making of this video. I am incredibly grateful for all the support and super happy with how it turned out.”  Ultimately, it’s a song of hope, joy, fulfilment and the need to believe in yourself enough to take risks.  It’s a positive message delivered in an uplifting song.  Who doesn’t need a bit of this right now?  Enjoy.
