Video Premiere: The Blue Highways “Tonight”

Check out the video premiere of the passionate ‘Tonight’ from The Blue Highways.  This beautiful song has been recorded in the equally beautiful surroundings of St John’s Church, Hoxton.  The group usually includes the Lury brothers Callum, Theo and Jack accompanied by Peter Dixon on bass.  Here, we just have Callum and Theo, leaving behind the band’s usual expansive ‘big’ sound and arrangements with piano, electric guitar and pedal steel for something altogether more delicate and heartfelt.  It’s no less effective for this.  In the quiet, our attention is drawn to the smart lyrics and gorgeous harmonies.

The Blue Highways, formed in 2018, have quickly established themselves in the Americana scene in the UK.  Their 2019 self-titled EP was released to critical acclaim and was quickly followed by debut album ‘Long Way to the Ground’, for which we praised the band for their, “…big sound and intelligent song-writing.”  Known as a dynamic live act, The Blue Highways have supported the likes of Iris Dement, Robert Vincent and Bennett Wilson Poole as well as appearances at a number of festivals, including The Millport Country Music Festival, Summertyne and AmericanaFestUK.

The future looks bright for The Blue Highways, who are currently working on new material ready for release during the summer.  Their local music venue, The Trinity in Harrow, is closed due to covid-19 restrictions.  However, The Trinity, the venue where The Blue Highways first performed together, has kindly turned an upstairs room into a recording studio where the group are recording a more rock’n’roll collection of songs for an EP.  Look out for the EP and a full UK tour later this year.  In the meantime, enjoy ‘Tonight’.
