Video Premiere: William Poyer “The Eagle”

Check out the video premiere of ‘The Eagle’, the excellent first single from William Poyer’s upcoming EP ‘Forgiven’.  A positive to come out of the enforced pause in live touring was the opportunity it presented to write and record new material and to collaborate with other musicians.  Poyer’s new EP was produced by Archie Sylvester of popular bluesy Americana duo Ferris & Sylvester.  Issy Ferris was also involved and her distinctive backing vocals can be heard on ‘The Eagle’.  The songs were recorded at Ferris & Sylvester’s Mill Town Studios, and this song was the only one put together simultaneously live without using a click track.  Recording in this way gives ‘The Eagle’ an unmistakable richness and warmth.

This song was written for Poyer’s wife, in thanks for her patience, commitment and support at a time when the world was full of fear and uncertainty.  There has been a shift in Poyer’s style since his last album.  Now, the inclusion of electric guitar and Hammond Organ creates more layers, building throughout the song.  There’s a depth and texture to ‘The Eagle’ that brings to mind artists like Ray LaMontagne.  The animated video features a line-drawn Poyer on a journey home, capturing the musical mood, especially when increasing colour is introduced as the song unfolds.

Poyer was delighted with the result: “This is my proudest work to date. ‘The Eagle’ is like no other song I’ve written or recorded. I absolutely love playing this song live and I’m so thrilled we managed to bring it to life in the studio in the way that we did. Additionally, I’m so proud of the video that is accompanying the track. I’ve became a huge fan of artist Jackson Pope’s work and twisted his arm to make a video for this single. I absolutely love his unique visual style and couldn’t be happier with the result. I am really excited to share it with everyone.”

With such a strong opening single, it’s clear that ‘Forgiven’ will be one to look out for in the coming months.  In the meantime, soak this up.
