Video: Simon Flory “The More You Talk (The Less I Hear)”

Take note of the wooden cross plunged upside down into the earth, glimpsed early on on this cinematic video.  You’ll see it again as we reach a dramatic conclusion and it’s the attention to such narrative detail and clever flashbacks that make this genuinely compelling viewing.  This terrific visual is well-produced, totally absorbing and like watching a mini-movie.  It’s dark and disturbingly atmospheric and, more so than many videos, it really enhances the song.

Although the video takes us down a certain narrative path, the song itself is lyrically autobiographical, recounting a true tale of a love gone wrong for reasons unknown, resulting in a sense of loss and isolation.  The Texas-based singer-songwriter draws on his childhood in rural Indiana, traditional fiddle and banjo and early country influences to create a wonderfully involving sound.  Flory’s clean, clear vocal is a perfect fit for the genre, especially when he holds those notes.

Multi-instrumentalist Flory has a brand new album out, ‘Haul These Blues Away’.  Check it out for an authentic early country sound.
