Video: The Sam Chase Trio “The Color of Bone”

Sam Chase possesses one of the most captivating voices you’re likely to hear: earthy, gritty and full of story-telling character.  His songs range from bleak narratives to sequences of thoughts to desperate-sounding pleas but they’re always distinctive and lyrically engaging.  When he performs alongside Chandra Johnson’s violin and Devon McClive’s cello, Chase’s vocal truly soars, full of epic purpose.  Their strings add a richness to the sonic layers, over which Chase’s voice is impassioned, rising and falling, becoming louder at key moments and then quietening as his tales unfold.  This recording of ‘The Color of Bone’ shows how well the three performers deliver live, which is the best way to absorb The Sam Chase Trio.  Hugely atmospheric, the original song appeared on his 2013 album ‘Will Never Die’.

Check out The Sam Chase Trio on tour in the UK this summer.  Their music is truly absorbing live.  Chase is a fine story-teller, whose good humour and interaction with his audience makes his heartfelt, soul-searching ballads even more effective.  Dates below:
