Video: The Sarandons “So Long”

Check out recent single ‘So Long’ from Canadian indie-rockers The Sarandons.  Featuring bursts of great guitar from Craig Keeney, it’s big and anthemic, warm and open-hearted.  The song is driven by a great rhythm section and Damian Coleman’s pulsing bass is particularly effective.  As the song progresses, there’s a lyrical breakthrough, a blossoming optimism about moving on that takes us beyond earlier doubts: “It took me ten years to remember // To realize which side I’m on // But I was right there where ya wanted // All along,” delivered with Dave Suchon’s raw, heartfelt, melodic voice.  The well-shot video features the band performing with plenty of energy and emotion, as well as a sense of the camaraderie and a glimpse of The Sarandons’ writing and recording process.

‘So Long’ is taken from forthcoming album ‘Sightlines’, which is due for release on 27th January 2023.  This full-length record is the follow-up to the well-received 2021 EP ‘Outrunning’.  The Sarandons’ songs feel real, starting from a place of doubt, nostalgia and melancholy but ultimately becoming uplifting, rising up like the quality of their spirited harmonies.  When reflecting on the new music, Suchon says: “Maybe that’s a part of some of the reflection I’ve done over the last year.  Coming to grips with autonomy. There was definitely something that shook loose in me. Why shouldn’t I be happy and who but me is responsible for creating that happiness? Why shouldn’t everyone be fully realised and allow themselves to find their own path?”  Indeed.  Shake something loose, everybody, and let’s get happy.
