William the Conqueror’s new album lands in March

William the Conqueror return this March with a new album called ‘Maverick Thinker‘ which will be released via Chrysalis Records.  Well known for their bravura performances and ability to give it all in the service of a song – and then some – William the Conqueror also have a sensitive side which they revealed whilst recording at LA’s legendary Sound City Studios.  It runs through ‘Quiet Life‘ which the band are reeasing in advance of the album.  It’s a slow paced fuzzed up song that bubbles underneath with repressed emotions, it’s not exactly a love song although it may well be confusion.

As lead-singer and main songwriter Ruarri Joseph explained: “With Quiet Life, we wanted to step outside the sound of the trio and build some walls, add some layers for this one. It’s a trippy, fuzzy wander down someone else’s memory lane, so we went cinematic.

And if you can’t wait until March for William the Conqueror’s brand of storytelling then check out their podcast which takes the form of an audio book – an account of a musician trying to make ends meet, trying to be seen and to be acknowledged, and trying harder still not to care. Except of course he does care otherwise why bother trying? Might it be familiar in some way to narrator Ruarri Joseph? It might be at that.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
