Yonder Boys “Look At What You Done” – multinational acid bluegrass

Just to be clear this is not a cover of Slade’s ‘Look What You Dun‘ (we’re still waiting for the bluegrass version of that), it’s a brand new song from Yonder Boys taken from their album ‘Acid Folk.‘  it’s not really folk as you might think of it, rather it is full-on bluegrass.  Yonder Boys are a Berlin-based band – and we’re starting to notice that there are a few Americana bands in Berlin – but none of the band would declare “ich bin ein Berliner” as they are none of them even German.  Yonder Boys are Australian David Stewart Ingleton on vocals and banjo, Jason Serious (vocals, guitar) is American and Tomás Peralta (vocals, mandolin, lap steel, banjo, bass) hails from Chile.

The band explain that their album title comes from drawing their inspiration from 1960’s psychedelia, americana, bluegrass-influenced banjo-driven numbers, and Sicilian chants.  So not Acid Folk in the sense that a UK audience might have it.  But that’s ok too.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
