Zelly “Mercy” – putting the murder back into murder ballad

Originally from California, Zelly Dugan began playing guitar and writing songs at the age of 14, entering a few songwriting contests in high school. She spent a few lonely years in Los Angeles, trying to find herself and her sound. After moving to Nashville, she began working at Nikki Lane’s vintage shop High Class Hillbilly, where she was introduced to Lane’s former drummer Aaron Goodrich. Goodrich ended up producing and playing on the new EP, due to be released on new Nashville label Cardinal Club.

‘Mercy’ is the title track of Zelly’s new EP and paints a picture of a woman without regrets or remorse: “caused a lot of pain – got a couple of bodies to my name.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
