John Mellencamp’s voice has settled into a growl as he pleads with God to help the human race on his new single ‘Hey God’.   Troubled souls in black and white enter a church alone and plead with God for help as a firy dobro sears alongside Mellencamp’s gruff delivery. Images of police arresting men in the streets and prisoners prostrate and begging for mercy offer a stark counterpoint to the deperate churchgoers.  ‘Hey God’ is the first single from his new album ‘Orpheus Descending’ due on 2nd June from Republic Records. Mellencamp produced this release, his twenty-fifth studio release at his own Belmont Mall Studios.

‘Orpheus Descending’ arrives on the heels of last year’s ‘One Eyed Jack’ as well as a book that is a collection of Mellencamp’s paintings.   In addition to this prodigious output he is taking on a massive North American tour in support of the new release.
