Lucy Kitt returns with her second album – all three chords and the truth of it!

British singer-songwriter Lucy Kitt has announced her second album, “Telling Me,” will be released on 14th November. Drawing from her love of 1970s Laurel Canyon folk, 1990s indie rock, and country music, the album is based on a raw acoustic “three chords and the truth” style of songwriting that ripples throughout, and though influenced by American musical traditions, the Essex-native maintains her distinctive voice and authenticity.

The lead single ‘Waiting Game‘ is out on October 17th, but we here at AUK have been given the privilege of premiering the video below, and of the track, Kitt says: “This song was written at the height of ‘lockdown’ 2021. I knew several close friends, one in particular who had struggled prior to this with their mental health. This song was written for them; there is both hope and healing in the lyrics.” The video features the core band line-up of Kitt on guitar and vocals, Sam Curtis on electric guitar, Jay Starkey on drums, and Demo Epaminondas on bass.

The album was recorded between 2021 and 2023 at London’s Lightship 95 studio at Trinity Buoy Wharf, and was co-produced and engineered by Dave Holmes, with some musicians contributing remotely from Nashville and London. This extended recording process was brought about by COVID restrictions and Kitt having a baby during this period.

Kitt has been songwriting and performing for over 20 years, starting in a riot grrl band in her teens in her hometown of Romford, Essex, before evolving into the artist she is today. A semi-finalist at the BBC Young Folk Awards in the early 2000s, she has performed at major festivals including Glastonbury and Cambridge Folk Festival.

Here’s the premiere of that forthcoming single:
