Smith’s first album in over 12 years, is an 11-song collection; an exploration that centres around overcoming adversity, conquering self-doubt and discovering her Blue Ridge/Appalachian Mountain-based birth family. “I write for one purpose,” offers Smith, “and that’s to figure out how to live in the world I am in.”

Cover Art Mindy Smith "Quiet Town"Smith has a long track record as a co-writer and “Quiet Town” features songs written together with Matraca Berg (‘Jericho) Natalie Hemby and K.S. Rhoads (‘Farther Than We Should Have’) and long-time writing partner Daniel Tashian (“Hour of My Departure’). “Quiet Town” was produced and recorded by Neilson Hubbard at Skinny Elephant Recording Studio.  Smith was joined in the studio by Lex Price (bass), Will Kimbrough (electric guitar), Danny Mitchell (piano, horns), Megan McCormick (electric guitar), Juan Solorzano (acoustic guitar) and Hubbard (drums, percussion). The album is now available for pre-order and pre-save here.

Smith has issued the first single and album title track, ‘Quiet Town’, a gentle, reflective song that is part lament and prayer of gratitude for things gone by.  Of the song, Smith says, “I wrote ‘Quiet Town’ while sitting on my back porch in East Nashville. While initially inspired by missing, even grieving, what has been lost (literally and figuratively) in Music City to make way for growth and ‘progress,’ the song pushed back. It seemed to want to be written about the charms of any time or place that not too long ago seemed to offer a different kind of ease to dwell in. Turning the script even further to find comfort in how cool it is to be counted among those able to have lived in such a time or place, wherever it may be, and to have a fortune of memories to share.”
