The Dreaming Spires and Annie Keating join forces for single and live dates

Sun-drenched country-rock from Oxfordshire meets smoky Americana from Brooklyn as The Dreaming Spires and The Annie Keating Band join forces on new single Put Me in Your Hands, due for release today, followed by a co-headline UK tour in September and October.  The tour will take the two acts to venues across the UK, including Bury, London, Glasgow, and Oxfordshire – full tour dates below.

The story behind the single and collaboration began with a song idea Annie had been carrying around for a year. She liked it, but wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. Then, on a whim, a co-writing suggestion made in Newbury set something in motion. What followed was a long-distance songwriting session between Brooklyn and the UK. With snow falling outside Annie’s Brooklyn home, Robin Bennett was at his desk, phone in hand, capturing couplets as Annie walked her dog through the morning.

“I thought it was just talking,” Annie explains, “Then I realised that I could hear keyboard clacking and I thought – oh, wait, he’s actually trying to capture some of this stuff coming out of me.” It was an unusual way to write, but one that opened up unexpected possibilities. Robin found the process liberating. “Not seeing the other person’s face took away the question of whether any of it was landing – you’re not thinking, are we trying to write a song right now? – and something opened up.”

The connection between the two acts runs deeper than the new single. The Dreaming Spires’ debut album, Brothers in Brooklyn, was inspired by the Bennett brothers’ time in Annie’s home borough, while Keating has become a “staple of the contemporary Americana scene” in the UK, championed by legendary broadcaster Bob Harris. Since Jamie Dawson, drummer for The Dreaming Spires, also tours as part of the Annie Keating Band, the musical chemistry should be seamless. With the Spires’ Robin and Joe Bennett bringing sibling harmonies and jangle, and Annie bringing gritty folk-rock with her storming band, also featuring Joe Coombs and Scott Warman, their live shows promise to be a night of heart-on-sleeve songwriting and stirring rock & roll.

Now, the partnership is going nationwide, with special collaborations planned along the way. Tickets are available here.
