Tour includes first time in Brighton.
The Minneapolis band has announced four dates so far in the UK, with hopefully more to come. One date that stands out is the Brighton gig, which is their first time on the South Coast and represents a coup for MD Jim Walker of Brighthelmstone Productions, who is using the gig to celebrate 15 years of bringing bands to the bottom of Britain.
Jim says, “Getting the Jayhawks to be part of the Brighthelmstone fifteen-year celebrations is a dream come true. There are loads of fans who come to my shows who have, over the years, asked if I could get them to come, and here we are. It’s perfect, and they will be awesome. We’re fifteen and they’re forty. Wow.”
Other gigs include London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Tickets are on sale here on June 5th – find all the dates below.
The Jayhawks emerged from Minneapolis in the post-punk era of The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, and Soul Asylum. They can truly be said to have pioneered today’s Americana movement through a series of albums that introduced rock audiences to a musical stew of country, folk, soul, Britpop, and rock ‘n’ roll. The band has played almost every major music festival, from Farm Aid to Primavera Sound, Pinkpop to Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky. Also, in the tradition of The Band and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Jayhawks have toured with and served as backup band for many big names, including Ray Davies, Roger McGuinn, and Johnny Cash. Today, Gary Louris, Marc Perlman, Karen Grotberg, and Tim O’Reagan continue to record and tour worldwide and have once again teamed up with legendary producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed) to create their upcoming album entitled Sanctuary Park, set to be released late summer this year.
