Sounds from beyond the Shed – Week 97

As Spring brings new shoots, so opportunities present themselves.

If you’re new to this parish, I am retiring from full-time teaching in July and am looking to do lots of the things I really want to do as opposed to dealing with feckless youth all day every day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s massively fulfilling but all the other BS that goes with it sucks the life out of you and before I am just a wandering husk on life’s highway I’m going to do some stuff that I want to and can afford to do.

To this end I have been making plans.

One of them is to have a weekly radio show with a local internet radio station which hopefully will be called Sounds from beyond the Shed and there will begin to be a cross-fertilization with AUK as the plan is for a weekly two-hour show that reflects the tastes and interests of you, dear reader. I’m very excited, as is my one listener, and the show will then be published on Mixcloud – be assured you will be informed.

On top of this my local record store has asked if I would like to come in with them as a partner albeit a very junior one. The fifteen-year-old self imagining a retirement of DJing and then working in a record shop is very happy indeed.

Other plans included doing some acting, maybe driving a bus or two, watching cricket, writing a sitcom and taking tours of WW1 and WW2 battlefields… amongst other things… oh and caring for ageing parents… and taking Mrs H wheresoever she wants to go. The list is endless.

So this week I’m thinking about what track do you start your first show with? It’s got to be a statement of intent. Maybe some America, perhaps some Felice Brothers or shall I go wild with something like Cracker? All good openers – as ever take what you want or need.
