Some of you may have caught Manchester’s Robbie Cavanagh at The Long Road Festival or The British Country Music Festival over the summer this year, but if you didn’t fear not as the singer-songwriter is taking his 4 piece band on a UK tour to celebrate the release of his 3rd studio record ‘Tough Love’.
Whereas Robbie’s previous record ‘To Leave/To Be Left’ released back in grappled with emotions of loss and self-pity from leaving or being left behind, ‘Tough Love’ is described as “a grittier and stronger-minded letter to himself and to anybody else who may be in need of a heavy dose of tough love.” Written over the course of the past 5 years, each track explores a new perspective on the record’s overarching theme and documents Robbie’s own journey of self-reflection and maturity, both as a person and as a songwriter.
Earlier in the year, we described Cavanagh’s song ‘Helpless’ as “a layered, carefully constructed song, full of sonic textures and instrumental flourishes that reward repeated listening. It’s also a song full of heart and soul. Cavanagh’s seemingly effortless and confident vocal performance has a sense of emotional authenticity, buoyed by soaring backing vocals and swelling keys.”
