Check out this new live performance of ‘Something You Got’ from the legendary Jerry Douglas and his incredibly talented band.  Originally, ‘Something You Got’ was written and performed in 1961 by Christopher Kenner.  Back in 2012, Douglas and Eric Clapton collaborated on a version of the song for his ‘Traveler’ album.  However, this time, it’s Douglas who takes on the lead vocal and, along with the band, it’s transformed into a lighter, more upbeat song that looks like it was a joy to perform and gives a sense of what it would be like to hear it performed in a live show.  Needless to say, Douglas’s Dobro performance is outstanding and mesmerising to watch.  His band also deserve a special mention: Christian Sedelmyer, Daniel Kimbro and Mike Seal deliver musical magic with the back-and-forth between the fiddle and guitar halfway through being particularly absorbing.

This is the second single from Douglas’s forthcoming album ‘The Set’, which is due out on 20th September 2024.  The album, his first studio record for seven years, will feature five new songs and six previously released tracks that have been re-imagined and given new life.  On this evidence, the wait has been worth it.  Douglas says: “I’m proud of it. I’ve left no stone unturned.  I’ve been producing records for a long time, so I really, really put on that hat for this record. Usually, I like instrumentalists to have free rein in whatever they do. It’s the way they speak. If anybody had an idea, we chased it down to the end. I feel like it’s really finished. I’m really happy with the outcome of this whole experience.”  Douglas’s credentials are incredible; a three-time CMA Musician of the Year, recipient of thirty International Bluegrass Music Association Awards and winner of sixteen GRAMMY Awards, it’s a privilege to to watch a performance like this.  Enjoy.
