Portland’s Jerry Joseph, the prolific and accomplished songwriter, powerful performer and notable campaigner is coming to the UK to promote his new venture “OIL”, his new livestream, ‘Where music, spirit and community meet’, which launched in the US on the 26th Sept. and follows in the footsteps of his 2020 virtual concert series ‘Happy Book’.
“The idea is, not unlike Happy Book,” says Joseph, “it’s a weekly episode (and theoretically more than weekly… or less)… I plan on playing songs… leaning on the more spiritual side of my songwriting and covers… but… in a broader picture … this quickly includes guest musicians, conversations with you… yes you… maybe taking questions, maybe just ranting, hopefully interviewing my weird life’s friends and characters (endless content and definitely not limited to music)…”
With no way to tour to promote his acclaimed 2020 record “The Beautiful Madness”, which was produced by Patterson Hood and featured The Drive-By Truckers as his backing band, in the midst of a pandemic, Joseph managed to pivot quickly and was one of the early adopters of the virtual concert, developing the weekly ‘Jerry Joseph’s Happy Book’ which streamed on all his social media channels. Live from his home or The Panther Studio in Portland, Joseph performed and told the stories behind his catalog of over 400 songs with occasional guests for 64 weeks and he has continued to return to the format on occasion since. Joseph will be returning to the UK this November. There will be shows split between the Green Note, Camden and the Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon plus a couple of additional ones. Sorry anywhere north of Nottingham! The High Wycombe gig will featured support from Joseph mentee Ella Spencer who has only recently returned from Portland after spending time there honing her writing skills
