It sometimes seems like not too many people are aware that Americana UK covers, amongst other things, that musical form of jangly guitar rock that we sometimes call Power Pop. Fortunately, there are a few who do realise this, and someone we’ve featured a few times is the Prolific Producer of Power Pop Jim Basnight. He has another album being prepared for release this Autumn, everything’s recorded, pretty much all mixed and it’sjust the whittling down to a dozen or so tracks and the all important choosing of a title to go. Time’s a tickin’.
Of recent single “Still Learning” Basnight says: “‘Still Learning’ is a dynamic, punchy guitar pop tune that is hard to get out of your head. It showcases a long-standing and ever-evolving guitar interplay with guitarist Bruce Hazen, who contributes his magic to every track on the entire album. Solid, melodic bassist Garey Shelton, who also engineers and co-produces with me on the entire project, played bass on while Jim Basnight Band drummer Sean Peabody composed and executed wonderful drums on ‘Still Learning’. Sean’s wife, and Jim Basnight Band backup singer, Beth Peabody sang harmonies.”
