Sounds from beyond the Shed 200 “Wow”

It appears that this is my 200th missive from either the shed or way beyond it. What started as a lockdown commentary on teaching from a box at the bottom of my garden has morphed into a seemingly endless series of columns that I hope either entertain, inform, or educate. Someone else said something similar? The name escapes me…

I’m very lucky to have a generous editor who only occasionally raps my knuckles when I carp on about something or perhaps single out someone for criticism unjustly. He also supports my various foibles, which crop up on a regular basis. There is a discipline involved with creating an article a week, which doesn’t necessarily involve something in the news or a cultural event. There needs to be a clear idea of who is consuming these articles, and I have again been lucky that, in the main, correspondence has been very supportive and positive. Of course, there have been a couple that have been less so, but that’s all part of the game, I suppose. You put yourself out there and hope that your words strike a chord and maybe introduce someone to some new music. It is a pleasure to have the platform, and whenever I meet up with the other contributors to the site, I am hugely proud of what we all put together in the name of art …or at least culture. Long may it continue, and thank you all for reading.

So this week saw my latest gig promotion venture, Whitney K/Flypaper, in Bedford, and as I write this, my current losses are £325! Thanks to all those who came out. It was a brilliant, brilliant evening. Will I do it again? Probably. I need to save up some money first.

My listening this week has been the brilliant remix of Drive By Truckers‘ Sinkhole and the wonderful Brad Paisley and Dawes single that I missed when it first came out. The radio show features as its classic album “Hollywood Town Hall” and Kissing Other PPL, Monsters of Folk, Patterson Hood, and much more. As ever…

Riding the one eyed horse into dead town the scales fell from his eyes. Music was the only true god at once profane and divine The dust blew through his mind as he considered the offering... And then he scored it out of ten and waited for the world to wake up
