The thing is, you listen to a new song by Midlake, and it sounds great from the start. Naturally, they are a tight band, and they know what they are doing – that blend of one step aside from reality, folk influenced, psychedelically infused that is pure Midlake. And then you listen again. And again. And those hidden depths that somehow you’d skated over the first couple of times start to reveal themselves. Maybe they bring in darkness, perhaps they shine a light of optimism. What was already a great song starts to really glisten as the other facets are brought to the light.
But don’t just take our word for it – let’s hear from Eric Pulido on what the band are trying to achieve on their new album “Bridge To Far“, from which ‘Eyes Full Of Animal‘ is taken: “The reference and inspiration is Midlake. This album is less about referencing someone else’s sound and more about sounding like us.” And it is true – there’s no need to say “hey, that song is a bit, hmm, you know, Fleetwood Mac-esque” or some such, one hears the music and thinks “hey, a new Midlake song I haven’t heard before – cool.”
End of sermon – hit play.
