The latest video from Hollie Rogers is cleverly filmed and edited so that she shines brightly in vivid colour, in stark contrast to the rest of her band, focusing our attention on her playing and distinctly powerful voice. Beginning with subtly insistent guitar before the low notes of Rogers’ vocal, He Reminds Me of You draws us in. Suddenly, the song bursts into life when Rogers’ voice soars, exploding in volume and rising to melodic highs. Riding along a great groove, He Reminds Me of You grows towards its climax, instrumental textures creating a full, deep sound. There are flourishes of keys and a compelling solo on the electric guitar. Above all these layers, it’s Rogers’ vocal performance that really catches light.
Rogers puts her full energy and heart into the performance, while her words highlight tricky emotions. Rogers explains the song’s theme: “He Reminds Me of You explores the pull of something that feels familiar yet dangerous. It captures a blurred line between comfort and risk, and the enormous tension that comes from feelings you might wish you didn’t have.”
This is the final video and single release from the new album Everything’s Fine, which has just been released. It’s an album that covers a range of emotions and relationships, personal to Rogers but also representing the everyday stuff of life for everyone. Rogers says, “Everything’s Fine is a collection of songs about life in all its messy unpredictability, where things rarely resolve the way you expect. Ultimately, it’s rooted in my own personal experiences, but I always suspected – and hoped – that it would be relatable to others too. As the release approaches, it’s been amazing to see early reactions and hear people connecting with the singles in such a real, personal way. After living with these songs for so long, that response from listeners is one of the greatest feelings a songwriter can have.” With this strong set of songs, Rogers displays her formidable voice and songwriting talent. Enjoy.
