Greg Freeman has announced his new album, All Set The Bone, along with a video for its lead single Indu. The John Congleton-produced album is due October 2nd via Transgressive/Canvasback. Freeman was barely done making his breakthrough album, Burnover, which appeared in The New York Times Best Albums of 2025 list and received the coveted ‘Best New Album’ distinction from Pitchfork, when he started writing its successor. “I had this epiphany moment where I understood what the next record should be,” he says, “which surprised me, because I thought it would take a lot longer to have the influences or inspiration required to undertake writing a new album.”
Freeman calls the album a “reflection of a lot of change, and a lot of tension.” While writing and recording it, he moved out of his longtime home in Burlington, holed up in a middle-of-nowhere part of the Southwest, leaving behind odd jobs as a cemetery landscaper and restaurant line cook. The set features Freeman’s longtime collaborators Garrett Linck and Sam Atallah, and new ones, including Florry’s Joey Sullivan, The Rockin Worms’ Carney Hemler, Anna McClellan, and Trinity Ace.
“History rubbernecks at each of your darkening thoughts.” Freeman says, “There’s a sense of time running out, of us becoming stuck in the trajectory of our own history,” and speaking of the album’s creation, he adds, “It should never feel comfortable; every album should scare you.”
