And to end the week on Tracks we have a new release from Icarus Phoenix, the Baltimore-based, Montana/Utah-rooted band led by Drew Danburry. Choke is a song that Drew tells us “is about running away from toxicity. That’s it. It has nothing to do with Mormonism.” To be honest we suspect a little reverse psychology going on here, as until Mormonism got mentioned the thought of Mormonism hadn’t crossed our minds. Either way Choke is on the one hand somewhat disturbing in its imagery, and yet as bouncy as hell – if oppression could always sound this catchy it’d have a much better press.
Drew Danburry will be bringing the solo sounds of Icarus Phoenix to these shores in November with just a couple of rare UK dates:
Spit & Sawdust (solo) – Cardiff, UK – Nov 27th
Rough Trade Liverpool (solo) – Liverpool, UK – Nov 28th
The Liverpool appearance is, of course, part of the Americana 25 Festival which will see a host of bands playing across two closely positioned venues – you can read all about this premier event here.
