Well that’s it from us for this week, and we leave you dear reader with a new song from Passenger out today called It Was Gonna Be You which doesn’t really have a whole lot of other information around it at the moment but presumably a new album is on the way which can only be a good thing. Mike Rosenberg says of the song: “I wrote it on holiday last year and it was one of those songs that came incredibly quickly and naturally…. Once I had the melody and idea of what it was about the rest of it just tumbled out of me in a matter of hours. It’s a song about a relationship coming to an end (of course it is…. classic Passenger 🙄) and the hole that it leaves. It’s about not being with someone that you thought you were gonna be with forever, about moving on and understanding that although it’s painful in the moment that maybe it wasn’t right for you anymore”. (Ouch. I do sometimes feel like Passenger is writing the soundtrack for my life.)
Rosenberg’s most recent project was a musical adaptation of the Rachel Joyce novel The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (although the follow-up The Love Song of Queenie Hennessy remains for me one of the most beautiful books ever written). Passenger plays a hometown exclusive at Hove Park, Brighton along with The Staves, John Smith, Ber and Chris Simmons on September 6th. Tickets available from this link.
