Bonnie Raitt has announced her latest album, ‘Just Like That…‘ will be released on April 22nd by new partner Sub Pop. This, her 21st album, comes after ‘Dig in Deep‘ was released in 2016. The album will include the new single ‘Made up my Mind’.
‘Just Like That…‘ was recorded in the summer of 2021 in California. The band includes two longtime members of Raitt’s band, bassist James “Hutch” Hutchinson and drummer Ricky Fataar, and two new musicians, Canadian Glenn Patscha on keyboards and backing vocals and Nashville guitarist Kenny Greenberg. Her longtime guitarist/songwriting partner George Marinelli also returned, playing and singing on ‘Livin’ for the Ones’, the song they co-wrote for the album. Once again, Raitt self-produced the album, reuniting with recording and mixing engineer Ryan Freeland for their third collaboration.
Raitt feels grateful that she can continue making music, contributing to causes, keeping her crew working, and connecting with her audience. “I’m really aware of how lucky I am,” she says, “and I feel like it’s my responsibility to get out there and say something fresh and new—for me and for the fans. But I need to have something to say or I won’t put out a record.“.
The album will be available on coloured and standard vinyl, CD, digital, and immersive audio formats Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio. The album can be preordered from the artist’s website.
Raitt is set to tour the US later in the year, and while this will not include the UK, she recently sat in for Cerys Matthews Blues Show on BBC Radio 2, which can be heard all this month on the BBC website.
