Listen to Jason Isbell cover Metallica’s “Sad But True”

Last week saw Metallica reveal details of a huge 30th-anniversary celebration of their seminal ‘The Black Album’ with a big, remastered box set, as well as a tribute album called ‘The Metallica Blacklist’ which features 53 (!) cover versions from various artists. One such artist is Jason Isbell who along with St Vincent and Sam Fender has recorded a version of the song ‘Sad But True’. You can hear St Vincent’s version here and Sam Fender’s here but for our money Isbell’s version probably stays closest to the essence of the original.
