That’s a bridge to a place called Far, not a David Lean film.
Midlake have announced their eagerly awaited sixth studio album, “A Bridge To Far”, due out 7th November 2025 via Bella Union. The album was recorded in Midlake’s hometown of Denton, Texas, and features special guest vocals from Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen, and Meg Lui. Its release is preceded by a couple of singles, the first of which is ‘The Ghouls’, which you can hear below. Written during a period of uncertainty about the band’s future, the track seemingly proved to be the spark that encouraged them to continue moving forward.
Commenting on the single, singer and frontman Eric Pulido says, “I wrote ‘The Ghouls’ after a conversation within our camp about everyone’s respective goals. The temptation to demonize the realities or challenges that exist, and yet to face them head-on and create something extraordinary.”
He continues about the album itself, and its themes of hope.“Hope is a need. To look beyond, above what is. We can all relate on many varying levels.”
Recorded at The Echo Lab in Denton and produced by Sam Evian (Big Thief, Hannah Cohen, Cass McCombs), the sessions were described by participants as instinctive and unforced. “Everything felt effortless and authentic,” Pulido says. “We didn’t overthink things.”
The album promises to be rich, with recurring themes of persistence, humility, and the quiet beauty in life’s overlooked details. And while Midlake’s past records have often carried clear stylistic reference points, this one is potentially more distilled. “The reference and inspiration is Midlake,” Pulido says. “This album is less about referencing someone else’s sound and more about sounding like us. We love one another, it’s still a challenge to carve out time with all that’s going on in our lives, but when we’re able, it’s a cherished experience.” The album is available to pre-order here.
