NOGA “The Alchemist” – Mystical Musings

Today’s little slice of Mystical Americana perfection is brought to you by NOGA, who is – when not all capitalized – Noga Shefi.  She’s toured the world as bassist for the likes of  Cass McCombs and Renata Zeigue, but now is the time for some of her own music.  ‘The Alchemist’ is the title track of her new EP, out on July 30th.  It draws inspiration from Paulo Coelho’s mysticist novel of the same name.

In the novel ‘The Alchemist’, the protagonist is made to take on a great quest spanning years and continents. It is not just about chasing dreams, but about the refinement of the alchemist’s skill and ability to turn something worthless into gold.  And here, on the title track, NOGA grounds her anxieties by reminding herself that the heart and mind is responsible for how one experiences reality.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
