Something for the weekend: The Handsome Family featuring Allen Ginsberg “Hiway Poesy Painted Desert to Albuquerque”

That’s it for another week dear reader and we leave you for the weekend with a track from the new tribute album to Allen Ginsberg whose classic poetry collection “The Fall Of America: Poems Of These States 1965-1971” turns 50 this year (at least that’s when the poems were written, the book itself was actually published in 1973.) Musicians involved in the project include Yo La Tengo, Andrew Bird and the Handsomes, whose Brett Sparks says of their contribution: “The feeling of driving through the desert at night really struck me. Memories going back to childhood, growing up in west TX. Once I found the tempo of Allen’s voice, the timing just fell into place. And the singing bit formed the perfect B section.” Have a good one.
