Mindy Murray will be releasing her latest solo single ‘Cold Kentucky Rain’ tomorrow, followed by a live premiere on the stage of the Lyric Theatre in Lexington, Kentucky as part of her appearance on The WoodSongs Old-TimeRadio Hour on December 4th.  But – you can hear ‘Cold Kentucky Rain’ here on Americana UK first!

Mindy Murray is a folksinger through and through – there’s no denying the power that she brings to a song.  Her songs often reflect on the hardships of the 1930s and 40s, her songs about miners and West Virginia reflect the years she spent in the Mountain State tending the needs of the people while attending medical school in Lewisburg.  She’s at home with modern stories, be they the toll of Covid,  or reminders of the need to exercise the right to vote – it’s the news turned into song.  The powerful reportage of ‘Cold Kentucky Rain‘ certainly reflects on a history of flood disasters, but the actual catalyst for the song was hearing in 2022 news of a catastrophic flooding in Eastern Kentucky – Mindy Murray was especially moved by a photo of four young children who were amongst those who perished there.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
