Powerful. Intense. Uncompromising. Directed by Asher Groh, this is the absorbing video for Lily Seabird’s recent single Election Day. When Seabird sings, “I don’t want your attention, love me or leave me the fuck alone,” she certainly does have your attention, whether she wants it or not. Vermont-based musician Lily Seabird unleashes a bright, brash Telecaster sound with a furiously instinctive performance. Through the verses, the combined instruments quieten, leaving the focus on Seabird’s impassioned vocal. When all the instrumentation kicks in, the result is full and bursting with driving energy.
Seabird says of Election Day: “This song is about having to make a decision, and both options are painful, confusing. I wrote this song on Election Day, which works as a great metaphor for this in our current political climate, but this song is not about voting. The chaos of painful decisions that are difficult, and when it suddenly comes to a point where a decision does have to be made. Getting lost in the darkness, searching for the light.”
Look out for Seabird on tour later this year, including the End of the Road Festival and a headline show at The Lexington on 3rd September 2026. She will be showcasing material from the new album, Lightspheres on Their Way, which will be released physically on 4th September 2026 and digitally on 2nd October via Lame-O Records. Across the album, Seabird explores the concept of ‘lightspheres’, which are some sort of life-force that visits repeatedly, shifting people’s stories, feelings and the trajectories of their lives. She explains: “A lightsphere can be so many things. An actual light like a star, the sun, a UFO; headlights, a flashlight in the night; but also life, living things, people, relationships.” It’s about meeting moments of change head-on, with bravery and resilience, in the knowledge that everything that happens to us is a ‘lightsphere’; something that is always moving, travelling away from where and what it has been, and shifting towards something new.
