Here’s an infectiously catchy song that will make you smile. Folk therapist Jeremy Dion’s latest single, “Lovin’ Our Friends”, drives along on rhythmic guitar with Dion delivering a smooth, engaging vocal melody. On the recording of the song, Courtlyn Carpenter supplies warm cello, adding a musical layer with Eric Moon’s keys. Over in the USA, it’s National Pet Day today, so it’s a fitting time to post the song and video, which reinforce the theme of loyalty and friendship, particularly with our beloved animal companions. The Dion family dog, Bernie, also makes an appearance in the video.
Dion says of the song: “It’s often so much easier to love our friends than to love ourselves. These three verses evolve from the replaying of a particular relationship, to the broader ways our minds play with regret, to the forward looking plans for what’s yet to come. This is my favourite song on the album, the chorus pops, I really dig the bridge, and it’s the most enjoyable song to perform live.” The joy in the live performance is evident in the accompanying video, which includes footage of his sold-out album release show at Grace Gamm Theatre and features most of the musicians who contributed to the album in a 9-piece band. There’s also footage from a house party, which was held to mark the album’s release and to celebrate the enduring strength and importance of close friendships.
Dion released his fourth album in October 2024, featuring this single – his top-streaming song on Spotify – along with ten other original songs. “Bend in the Middle” combines a musical blend of folk, bluegrass and rock with Dion’s professional psychotherapy. The result is a collection of songs that are full of heart and soul, songs that deliver positivity in spite of the challenges all around us. Check out the album and enjoy this stirring single.
