Check out Meet Me in the Back Room, the latest single from Nashville-based The Bretheren. Pounding drums and atmospheric keys provide the backdrop for guitarist and singer Joey McClellan, who is also a member of Midlake and has played with the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Israel Nash. McClellan’s jangling, treble-toned guitar is brilliantly engaging alongside his laid back, melodic vocal performance.
Known for being Elle King’s backing band, The Bretheren is a group packed with talent: alongside McClellan, the band features Dave “Moose” Sherman on keys, Paulie DeVincenzo on bass and drums from Dave Scalia. Between them, they have been members of a range of great bands and played with acclaimed artists, including Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Valerie June, Kevin Morby, Dawn Richard, White Rabbits and The Veronicas. It’s a collaboration based on experience and the band bring a great dynamic energy to Meet Me in the Back Room, an absorbing taste of what’s to come from The Bretheren.
Directed by Rett Rogers and filmed by Rogers and Hennen Payne, the visual is well-shot performance video that showcases each band member and conveys the energy of The Bretheren’s live shows. Having just finished a run of UK gigs supporting the acclaimed Midlake, The Bretheren have announced themselves on UK stages and are a band to watch out for. The band’s forthcoming debut album, Brethren Sound, promises to be an energetic collection of soulful, well-crafted songs, featuring a host of collaborators and striking voices, such as Sharon Van Etten, Michael Shannon, Nicole Atkins and Striking Matches.
