Los Angeles based Stephanie Hatzinikolis hails out of Spokane, where she started her musical journey playing piano, eventually starting to perform live towards the end of high school. Her latest single ‘Weed and Whisky‘ captures a duality of state – yes, trying to come to grips with difficult feelings, although “nothing’s going to stop me from feeling broken” suggests that the strategy of self medication isn’t working. Perhaps all that’s really being achieved is avoidance, “according to the clock I’m losing time” more than hinting at things just….slipping out of control. Nailing this song to a piano led and hooky melody makes for a song that shines, even as the lyrics limp towards some kind of oblivion.
