Where bluegrass meets jam band that’s where you’ll find Leftover Salmon – although it’s not quite how the band choose to label themselves. As Band co-founder and lead singer Vince Herman comments: “We cover the music that inspired us to be on this Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass highway all these years.” And on their new album ‘Grass Roots‘, the band digs into songs from the catalogs of Bob Dylan, The Seldom Scene, Doc Watson, David Bromberg, Dock Boggs and more. Like on today’s song.
‘Fire and Brimstone‘ finds Leftover Salmon joined by Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers on a bubbling take on the Link Wray song. Recruiting Oliver Wood for the track came very naturally – Leftover Salmon’s mandolinist Drew Emmett met The Wood Brothers years ago at the 10,000 Lakes Festival years ago and they immediately shared a musical kinship.
