Sounds from beyond the Shed – Week 103

Out of the frying pan into the fire

Insane amounts of sweets and knowing your stuff.

The run-in towards the end of term begins as the exams finish but in some cases this means that for at least four weeks (or more) some year groups believe the year is over. They see the pupils with external exams swanning about and they think ( understandably) that they too have done exams and so they are entitled to piss about and generally be a pain. Teachers are increasingly stretched between the mountains of reports and the growing behavioural issues and then… then… then they chuck a fucking activity week into the mix ffs.

00.30 two buses will leave our site for Paris… literally pouring petrol on the flames. 90 kids, 9 exhausted teachers and more sweets than Tate and Lyle could imagine. I will send a missive from the frontline next week. All I can say is I’ve packed the ketamine and a new packet of patience.

Sounds from beyond the Shed the radio show is a month old this week and I’m beginning to get the hang of things (correct me if I’m wrong here!) It’s a blast and a time to really enjoy the music from a new perspective; however I’m aware that I am making a number of errors in my link pieces – Meat Puppets instead of Mutton Birds, Rio Tinto instead of Shot from a Spring – that sort of nonsense so I have decided to make it my USP – spot the mistake(s), it makes life more interesting, that sort of thing. The feedback has been very positive and I welcome more as I stumble into the light of actually doing it well. This week’s features everyone from The Roches and Mavis and Levon to Nicolae Dunger and Songs:Ohia. As ever take what you want or need.
