We are big supporters here at AUK of homegrown Americana here in the People’s Republic of Liverpool and so it’s great today to be able to share the brand new song ‘The Visit’ by Only Child. Produced by Alan O’Hare and Jon Lawton at Liverpool’s Crosstown Studios, ‘The Visit’ follows hot on the heels of critical acclaim for Only Child’s tenth anniversary-celebrating ‘Looking Forward To Looking Back – A Decade Of Only Child’ LP release which we covered last year here on AUK.
“It’s a brand new start,” says songwriter O’Hare. “The anniversary LP put a full stop on part one of Only Child. Now we’re all grown up and ready to go the way the new songs point. ‘The Visit’ arrived vividly: firstly, waking me from a dream in a hotel room in Wales as my wife and daughter slept beside me and then again weeks later as I walked around my old secondary school as my daughter attended a gym lesson. We carry our past with us and are not in control of when it chooses to appear.”
Picked and strummed acoustic guitars sparkle on a bed of bouncy, flat-picked bass and homemade percussion as O’Hare sings brightly above defiant yet melancholic horns. Liverpool’s reputation for stellar music remains intact.
